  Hi my name is Ellis Brazier and I am one of Pure fishing’s JRC and Gulp Carp consultants. My journey into the world of angling started when I was very young, ably assisted by my father who was a very keen and proficient angler. Since this introduction into our wonderful sport I have experienced many great times in angling from catching gudgeon on the river Severn to shark fishing in the pacific. Now my angling mainly centres around carp angling both in England and on the continent both for pleasure and as a carp angling journalist working for a range of magazines on a monthly basis. I also still enjoy other forms of angling and avidly fish for grayling and pike in the winter and salmon and sea trout in the summer both with conventional methods and as a dedicated fly angler. I have a very healthy specimen list to my credit including double figure sea trout , salmon from the six different UK rivers, Pike from both rivers and still water to over 20lb, barbell into double figures and over 70 UK 30lb + carp to 39.4lbs. My current ambition and one that I have been pursuing for some time is a UK 40lb + carp and if I could choose I would dearly like to catch this in my home county of Shropshire, apart from this as long as I can still fish on a regular bases for whatever swims past then I am a happy man.

  My name is Stewart Downing, and I live in Suffolk; and have been fishing from the tender age of 5, all thanks to my Grandfather, who was a ferryman on the River Trent – so no choice!
  
  I have been Carp fishing for over 20 years, and have had the pleasure of fishing some fabulous waters and in great company over that time, predominantly in the eastern counties of the UK. I have also fished a few trips in Spain and France over the last few years, which I always find exciting, regardless of the results!
  
  I have caught hundreds of big carp in the UK, but only a handful of European fish. My UK PB is a 38lb Mirror and I caught my best European fish of 49.08 back in August this year on an exploratory trip with the new Gulp! Carp bait in France. I took this fish on a Squid and Liver snowman rowed to over 180m in the middle of the night, the size and condition of this fish just blew me away!
  
  I also fish for many other species, and have taken Barbel to 13.10, Tench to 9.04, Bream to 9.10, Chub to 6.10, Roach to 3.10, and Rudd to 2.12. I also love to fish for predators in the UK, and have caught Pike to 29.12, Catfish to 65.04, Zander to 15.04, Perch to 3.10 and Eels to 5.02.
  
  My main carp target now is to land a UK 40, (having lost a big Common of 40 at the net!), and I rate the prime time to do this will be this winter, especially in February if we get a nice big low coming in from the West !

  Hi my name is Stewart Hay, 2011 is my 30^th year as an angler, most of that spent chasing Carp. During the last few years my motivation as a Carp angler has been to catch what I would term ‘special Carp’ – old English mirrors and commons, chasing these carp has led me to many special waters including Baston Fen, Bundy’s, Elstow, St Ives Complex, Yately and a number of local syndicate waters.
  
  My enjoyment has always come from being out on the bank taking in the whole angling experience and of course trying to catch a fish or two along the way.
  
  Having worked in the angling industry for the best part of 20 years most of my time is spent talking about fishing tackle or about catching the fish, it’s a hard life but somebody has to do it.
  
  My main target this year is to better my personal best common and both the Cambridgeshire syndicates I have joined hold some lovely old commons into either high 30’s or over 40lb. I will let you know how I get on.

If I had to pick one venue to retire to it would be the River Lot in France with its miles of untapped potential.

  I have fished for most species in sea, game and coarse but I mainly now specialise in Carp, Barbel and Pike. For Carp I have fished in France for over 25 years working as a bailiff for a commercial fishery for 17 years and for the last 3 years I have been very involved in the building and maturing of Crystal Waters Fishery based in the Burgundy region of France. I have been lucky enough to have had over 100 fish now exceeding 40lb up to my personal best of 61.07lb, which was a stunning mirror. My passion at present is running trips to Crystal Waters involving and helping customers catch there PB’s. Total Satisfaction!!!!!
  
  When back in the UK I manage to squeeze in one night a week on two syndicate waters in Hertfordshire, beautiful lakes, pretty surroundings a good challenge and just on my doorstep, what more can you ask for after a hard day’s work.
  
  With limited time permitting over the last few seasons (those carp take my time up) I have been fishing a few stretches of the River Kennett with Barbel being the quarry and have had fish up to 14lb. It is lovely to be able to still fish rivers, I think a river is alive; it never seems to be the same place.
  
  Likewise I have a small boat moored on the River Bure in Norfolk where for many years I have spent my winters fishing for the pike with great success.
  
  To sum my fishing up there’s nothing better than the alarm screaming off, you lay into it, feel the fish, your best mate next to you and you look him in the face and say “ITS A LUMP SON!!!!!!!”
